National Trust for Historic Preservation in Austin Texas: July 31, 2010
On Saturday July 31st The Long Black Line.Org will announce the recipient of it
first Public History Internship. The internship is a four week research project
on East Texas historic African American communities also known as "Freedom
Colonies". This work will focus on GIS and GPS mapping of these historic
sites which will support those engaged in scholarship or who have an interest in
the history and preservaton of these historic communities. This internship will
be administered by Perky Beisel, Phd and Paul Sandul, Phd, public history
professors at Stephen F Austin State University. The internship will support
ongoing work by the public history graduate program through the school year.

The presentation of the internship to the recipient will be made at the Wright
Brothers Ranch on July 31st at 10:30 am cst. Join us for an LBL Tour that day
where you will see the work that will be part of this project. The tour will
follow the presentation. We will lunch in Jasper Texas and the tour will end at

Preservaton National Conference: October, 27-30
The National Trust for Historic
Preservaton annual national conference in Austin Texas, Oct 27-30. Dr Beisel
will join us for our session on historic tourism at 8:45am on October 30. She
will provide more details on the nature of this legacy research at Stephen F
Austin State University.

Long Black Line Symposium: June 26, 2010
The Long Black Line.org, the Stephen F. Austin State University Department of History, and the East Texas Historical Association will hold a symposium titled “The Great African American School Movement” on Saturday June 26, 2010 at the Stephen F. Austin State University Baker Pattillo Student Center theatre. The symposium will begin at 8:45 A.M. and will include two morning sessions, a catered buffet lunch, and one afternoon session, which will end at 2:30. The symposium is offered at no cost to the public, and complimentary coffee and refreshments will be served during a mid-morning break. The buffet lunch is also offered at no cost, but since meal seating is limited to 100, it will require pre-registration.
